Atleti buy into Lens

Atletico Madrid have taken a 35% stake in French second division club Lens, it has been confirmed.

AS reports the Paris Commercial Court accepting an offer from Luxembourg-based Solferino to purchase Lens, for around €6m, with Atleti holding just over a third of the organisation.

Lens President Gervais Martel was present in court, as was Ignacio Aguillo, a major shareholder in Solferino, and an Atleti board member, who explained the situation.

“The goal is to return Lens to their potential level. We want to grow, to control expenses.  Atletico will bring their sports planning, networks and some players,” Aguillo revealed, before confirming that if Lens were to qualify for Europe, Atleti would divest themselves of their interest to avoid a conflict.
