Barcelona have confirmed fears that Luis Suarez injured his thigh in Sunday’s Copa del Rey triumph against Sevilla.
Sport reported on Monday that Suarez was facing a month out after he stretched for the ball awkwardly just before an hour of play at the Vicente Calderon, and Barca announced “an injury to the semimembranosus muscle in his right leg” on their official website.
La Blaugrana add that the No 9 will stay back until June 1, when he will join his Uruguay teammates in the United States for both the country’s Copa America campaign and the second stage of his recovery.
However, the club did not disclose the length of time Suarez would spend on the sidelines, thus maintaining the possibility that he may not make an appearance at the centennial tournament.
