Coke: Sevilla didn’t do enough

Coke admits Sevilla “didn’t know what to do” with the ball when they were a man up on Barcelona in Sunday’s Copa del Rey final defeat.

Sevilla had plenty of possession between Javier Mascherano’s red card in the first half and Ever Banega’s dismissal in added time at the end of the 90 minutes but failed to make any of it count, prompting Coke to lament his side’s shortcomings.

“We needed more tranquillity when we had numerical superiority,” the right-back said after the game.

“We had some chances, but the turnovers [in possession] hurt us. They weren’t better than us at 11 v 11.

“In the end, they took the lead from an isolated phase of play and we could do nothing about it.

“We came forward and physically we were good. The game was tied at 11 v 11, and when they had 10 we had the ball, but we didn’t know what to do [with it].

“The fans deserve it all. They gave everything in Basel and we saw them enjoy themselves and support us again, so that’s why we must leave our skins on the pitch.”
