Atleti agree Gaitan deal?

Atletico Madrid have reportedly agreed a €25m deal with Benfica to sign long-term target Nicolas Gaitan this summer.

According to Marca, Atleti had tried to sign Gaitan on numerous occasions in the past but have finally landed their man, who said his goodbyes to Benfica on Thursday.

The Argentine will reportedly put pen to paper on a four-year contract with Los Colchoneros and is seen by Diego Simeone as a welcome addition, more so if the club’s appeal on a FIFA-imposed transfer ban is rejected.

Gaitan, 28, scored 11 goals and made 19 assists last season as Benfica lifted their third straight Portuguese League title and reached the Champions League quarter-finals, where they were knocked out by Atleti.

He expected to follow the likes of Pizzi, Silvio, Eduardo Salvio, Guilherme Siqueira, Raul Jimenez and – most recently – Jan Oblak in switching between the two clubs.
