Arteta to join City?

Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta has reportedly agreed to join Manchester City as part of Pep Guardiola’s backroom staff.

According to Marca, Arteta will arrive alongside Guardiola on July 1 as a personal request of the Coach-elect due to his 11 years in English football with the Gunners and Everton.

The 34-year-old also began his professional career at Barcelona, although he only featured for their ‘C’ and ‘B’ teams between 1999 and 2002.

Arteta told the Daily Mail earlier in the week that there was only “a one percent chance” of him staying on as a player, and Marca claims his decision to become a coach for City can now be confirmed.

The former Real Sociedad man began studying for his coaching badges two years ago and is understood to be near the finish line.

He was expected to stay at Arsenal and take up a non-playing role, while their arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur were also reportedly interested in adding the Basque to Mauricio Pochettino’s coaching team.
