Torres ‘not surprised’ by Euro snub

Atletico Madrid’s Fernando Torres admits he didn’t expect to get a call for Euro 2016. ‘It wasn’t a surprise, I haven’t been called in two years…’

Torres’ late-season form had led to suggestions he could get a recall for the summer but El Nino was left off Vicente del Bosque’s list, as he expected.

“It wasn’t a surprise, I’ve had to years without being called. I wish them well, I’m a fan, I wish the national team the best,” Torres said, AS reports.

“I never saw an option to go to the national team and now I support them to do something never seen before: win the Euros three times in a row. I’ve got the most important game of my life [the Champions League Final] and the national team isn’t going to affect my concentration for a second. Everything else is secondary.

“Nobody called me when the squad was announced but that’s not a problem. It’s not going to affect me, it’s part of football. I’m not concerned at all. I’m Spanish and I want Spain to win.”
