Rami: Emery is a fighter

Adil Rami lauded ‘fighter’ Unai Emery for his mental strength after Sevilla’s come-from-behind Europa League win over Liverpool.

Daniel Sturridge put the Reds in front but Kevin Gameiro and a Coke double made sure the trophy remained at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, much to the delight of the centre-back.

“I’m happy. It was a very difficult game against an historic team. We have the cup and we are in the Champions League. We have a Coach who transmits his mental strength. He is a fighter,” Rami remarked, AS reports, before discussing what Emery said when Sevilla went in at half time a goal down.

“He said nothing has happened. They’ve scored a great goal. Don’t worry. We came out, we scored and we won. He’s the boss and the owner of this team. I know him from Valencia and he is very good.

“This is also because of the fans. They didn’t let us take a siesta. At 5pm they were already at the hotel cheering! All of this is thanks to them. Thanks to the club, to the President, to Monchi. I have three years on my contract. The important thing is the Champions League.”

Rami also revealed his fitness after he was forced off late in the tie, but insisted he’ll be fine for the Copa del Rey Final on Sunday.

“It’s just a cramp and I couldn’t move so it was better to go off because we needed people who were fresh. It’s nothing severe and I’ll be able to play the final. Not if it was tomorrow, but later,” he confirmed.
