Carvajal: Zidane deserves to stay

Dani Carvajal believes Zinedine Zidane has earned the right to stay on as Coach of Real Madrid, and talks Euro 2016.

Zidane was appointed in January to replace Rafa Benitez and has guided Los Blancos to their second Champions League Final in three years, with neighbours Atletico Madrid again the opposition.

“This year’s final will be similar to two years ago and I expect it to be even. We’re two rivals who know each other very well and hopefully the final falls on our side,” Carvajal said, AS reports.

“Zidane has managed the team very well, he’s brought freshness and distributed the minutes which has allowed us to get to Milan [the site of the final]. Of course I want him to continue. And he deserves to on his own merits.”

Carvajal also commented on the preliminary Spain squad for Euro 2016 after he was named with Atletico’s Juanfran and Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta as Vicente del Bosque’s right-back options.

“I’m very happy to be on this initial list for the Euros. It was a special day. Both Juanfran and I will make it difficult for the Coach by doing well and trying to win [the Champions League],” he added, before touching on the presence of club colleague Lucas Vazquez in the list.

“I’ve played with him for years, in the cantera, and he’s helped us a lot this year. He deserves it and I’m happy for him.”
