Pique, Burgui ‘row after parade’

Barcelona’s Gerard Pique and Espanyol’s Burgui, on loan from Real Madrid, reportedly had a confrontation after La Blaugrana’s title parade.

Sport cites TV8 in claiming that after Barca celebrated their Liga success on Sunday, Pique, Marc Bartra, Jeremy Mathieu and Neymar continued the party at a local establishment, and bumped into a number of Espanyol representatives.

Burgui was reportedly among them, with former Barca player Victor Sanchez and Los Periquitos legend Raul Tamudo, and it’s alleged that when Pique clocked Burgui, he confronted him.

Burgui was quoted in January as saying Pique ‘leaves a lot to be desired as a person’ and the Barca defender took issue with the comments, but any altercation was brief and the presence of the other players, and that the players were in a public venue, made sure it didn’t go any further despite it being a tense scene.

Burgui, however, used Twitter to deny the reports, insisting that while he and Pique were present in the same venue, there was nothing ill-mannered about their interaction.

“Nothing to do with reality. I was chatting [with Gerard Pique], a peer who I respect,” he wrote.
