Damiao announces Betis exit

Leandro Damiao will leave Real Betis this summer after the striker confirmed both parties had decided to go their separate ways.

Damiao joined Betis on a free transfer until the end of the season in January after a protracted saga stemming from a boardroom shake-up at the Benito Villamarin, but he played just 129 minutes in three La Liga matches.

“After the last game of the season, and the goal of safety in the division being accomplished, I’d like to report that [Betis and I] have decided to embark on a new path separately,” the Brazilian wrote on Instagram.

“I especially want to thank the fans, who always showed me their support and tokens of affection.

“I leave behind colleagues, friends and club employees, whom I will always carry in my heart wherever they are.

“I want the biggest sporting success for Real Betis, and I’m sure it’ll arrive in the coming seasons.

“It’s been an honour for me to wear this shirt and be part of this club.”
