Galca seeks Espanyol talks

Constantin Galca says he is prepared to speak with Espanyol’s hierarchy over staying on as Coach next season.

Galca guided Espanyol to 13th place in La Liga after Sunday’s 4-2 win against Eibar, but his contract expires in the summer and there has been a degree of discontent from fans in relation to Los Periquitos’ performances under the Romanian.

“I don’t know [if this is my final game],” he said after the match.

“My contract is still going, so there’s time [to talk], but the most important thing right now is that we finished the season well.

“We finished 13th, one point behind Valencia. In the end, it was [a] positive [finale] and I’m happy for the players because they made a great effort.

“I saw that they played with more freedom. With our execution and involvement, we took the game forward.

“Safety could have happened against Levante and in other games, and we could’ve had a calmer final day.

“Next season, we must improve in all aspects. There’s been a lot of pressure during the campaign.

“We know that the fans of Espanyol are demanding and always want the best, but the most important thing is that we stayed up.

“[On being whistled], the fans can do what they see fit. They’ve always been at our service and we have to thank them.

“[On his future], I’ll speak to the club if they want me to, with the sporting director or someone else…

“I’d like to stay, but it depends on many things. I’d have to change the team’s approach to playing.

“I’ve said many times that football is very demanding and goes far behind the pitch.”
