‘Sporting-Villarreal not a game of football’

The President of relegated Rayo Vallecano accused Villarreal of not turning up against Sporting Gijon as “it wasn’t a game of football”.

Rayo’s 3-1 victory over Levante was in vain as Sporting stayed up courtesy of a 2-0 win against Villarreal, managed by their former player and Coach Marcelino, prompting Raul Martin Presa [pictured, left] to slam the Yellow Submarine for offering nothing at El Molinon.

“Villarreal didn’t compete, neither did their line-up, substitutes nor approach [to the game],” he told Carrusel Deportivo after the game.

“From the first minute, we saw that it wasn’t a game of football.

“We sacrificed ourselves in the match, while Villarreal didn’t make any preparations [for the game], not having any shots on goal or anything.

“For our fans, we’ll return to La Liga. If Paco [Jemez] wants to stay then he will.

“If he understands our situation, we’ll begin our preparations for next season [on Monday].

“You can win or lose, but you always have to compete. I’m the first person responsible for our relegation.”
