Jese: Madrid must not fail

Real Madrid striker Jese Rodriguez has issued a rallying call to his teammates ahead of Saturday’s fixture at Deportivo la Coruna.

Los Blancos visit Riazor knowing they have to win to have any chance of snatching the title on the final day, whilst hoping that rivals Barcelona do not claim all three points against Granada at Los Carmenes.

Speaking to Madrid’s official media, Jese made it clear that the players must fight to the end.

“We are preparing for Depor as just one more game, yet we must look ourselves in the face and go for it because we cannot fail,” insisted the 23-year-old.

“The worse thing would be if we didn’t win and there was a surprise in Granada, so we will go out with the intention of winning, as usual.

“We really want to win this last League match. It doesn’t depend on us to win the title but we can’t afford to slip up.

“We are Real Madrid and have to win. Then we must wait to see what happens in Granada.”

Jese believes Madrid deserve to be in this situation, having been behind both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid for much of the season.

“I’m not surprised we are where we are because we’ve worked hard for many months to be there. Sometimes things don’t go as you’d like, or the results have not been with us, but we’ve always given our lives for this shirt, this badge and the supporters.

“Our fans are amazing. They are always encouraging us and I’d also like to congratulate them for Madrid being in the Champions League final.

“We know that first we have a final on Saturday, then Milan, and we’ll try to finish the season as best we can for them because they’ve always supported us throughout it.”
