Betis confirm Poyet appointment

Real Betis have confirmed Gus Poyet will be the club’s new Coach on a two-year contract.

The former Sunderland and AEK Athens trainer, who played in La Liga with Real Zaragoza before moving to the Premier League with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, will replace Juan Merino, who stepped in for Pepe Mel mid-way through the season.

Betis recently appointed Miguel Torrecilla as their new sporting director, hired from Celta Vigo to replace Eduardo Macia, and determining the identity of the Coach was said to be a priority, with Poyet touted over the weekend.

President Angel Haro has also said that ‘anything other than the top half [next season] would be a failure,’ with Betis 14th after 37 rounds of 2015-16.
