Arbeloa: Believe to the end

Alvaro Arbeloa insists Real Madrid will ‘believe in La Liga until the last moment’ as he plays his farewell game at Santiago Bernabeu.

Arbeloa was a second half substitute in the 3-2 win over Valencia that means Los Blancos are the only side that can catch leaders Barcelona on the last day after Atletico Madrid lost at Levante, the defender to leave the club in the summer.

“We lost two titles in Tenerife and we all remember the League at Deportivo La Coruna. We’ll believe until the last moment, as we believed in Lisbon,” he said, AS reports, referencing the 2014 Champions League Final win over Atleti.

“We focused only on the Champions League two years ago and lost the League. If Barca don’t lose, we will congratulate them, but otherwise we have to be ready.”

Arbeola added that he doesn’t plan on retiring once his Madrid tenure comes to an end, and reflected on his career at the Bernabeu.

“It’s over, it’s been amazing. I thank all the people. I don’t know how to express the gratitude for these years. I’m one of them now. I’ll sit where they are, I thank them all,” he admitted.

“I want to continue playing. I’ve said I won’t wear another shirt in Spain. We’ll see after [the Champions League Final].”
