Cholo: Atleti spirit intact

Diego Simeone insists Atletico Madrid still have their spirit even after a gruelling week that saw a Champions League semi-final win.

Atletico are at Levante in their penultimate League game of the season but Cholo told a Press conference that Les Granotes won’t be easy pickings even though they’re already down, as his side look to stay in with a chance of winning the title for the second time in three years.

“Our enthusiasm, perseverance, to reach the final day with options is still intact. They’ll want to give a good image, in their last home game, and will want to compete better against Atleti. I’m happy, because I know there’ll be a lot of our people there,” Simeone said, AS reports.

“The reality is what it is. We have the imperative to win and from there to think about the next game. We have to take care of this game, which is important against a team that has just gone down, who are hurt by the situation and who want to have a good game.

“If we do our bit then I think we still depend on ourselves to match Barcelona’s points. What is up to us is what we have ahead and to confront it with intensity. The last games [at Ciutat de Valencia] have been different. We have a new challenge and an opportunity to do well. I’m focused on the game ahead.”
