‘Madrid eliminated a huge team’

Sergio Ramos claims Real Madrid “eliminated a huge team” in Manchester City after Wednesday’s successful passage into the Champions League final.

Gareth Bale’s deflected shot in the first half was enough to secure a second all-Spanish final between Madrid and city rivals Atletico in three years, and Ramos was quick to underline the magnitude of Los Blancos’ task in the last four.

“We managed to stay united and soak up the pressure to try and pull it off,” the defender said after the game, UEFA.com reports.

“We’ve eliminated a huge team in City. It has taken a lot to get to the final, but we deserve it.

“After such a difficult season we can now enjoy being in a Champions League final. The team deserved this, and so did the fans, tonight they were like an extra player.

“We will give everything in our souls in another final. The Champions League requires an enormous level of concentration and we have to enjoy this moment now.”
