Setien confirms Las Palmas stay

Quique Setien has confirmed that he will remain Las Palmas Coach next season, despite not yet signing a new contract.

Former Lugo boss Setien replaced Paco Herrera last October on a deal until the end of the season, with Las Palmas second from bottom in La Liga at the time of his appointment, and has gone on to secure a mid-table finish for the islanders, primarily thanks to a run of six wins in seven games between February and April.

“I’m very happy to be able to continue at Las Palmas next season,” he was quoted as saying by Marca.

“I’m not expecting any disagreements. Both parties have agreed on everything.

“[Negotiations] were very simple, and I thank the club for continuing to believe in me and the project we started in October.

“[On rumours linking him with Real Betis], at no time have I met or negotiated with another club.”

Las Palmas President Miguel Angel Ramirez added: “I’ve never doubted the continuity of our Coach or his word.

“We must be proud that other clubs are interested in our Coach.”
