German Burgos insists Atletico Madrid’s potential Champions League elimination by Bayern Munich did not faze him as “after cancer, I’m not afraid of anything”.
Diego Simeone admitted in his post-match Press conference that Atleti were close to missing out on the final when Bayern were awarded a penalty in Tuesday’s last-four second leg, which they ultimately missed, but his assistant – who was treated for cancer in 2003 – took the opposing view.
“After having cancer, I’m not afraid of anything. For me, it’s just football,” Burgos said after the game.
“After experiencing such an extreme situation, I want to take this opportunity to send greetings to all the people who are in hospitals, suffering in them, and give them all our energy.”
