Sergio Ramos admits Real Madrid wanted an away goal at Manchester City but he was ‘happy’ with the attitude in the Champions League semi-final.
The game finished goalless as Madrid had to cope without Cristiano Ronaldo, who failed a late fitness test, and Karim Benzema, who was forced off at half time
“We played in spite of Cristiano’s injury and Benzema wasn’t comfortable. We have the advantage of a large squad, and the younger players can show their face,” Ramos told reporters, according to AS, when asked about injuries in the team.
“That’s what is going to make us do well in this competition. We always want to have all of our players but despite the injuries, we played a great game.
“Cristiano is fundamental to us. I don’t know if he’ll be in the return leg. It depends on how his injury evolves and what the doctors say. Hopefully he can be.”
Regarding the result, Ramos felt Madrid could be content with their display even though they failed to score.
“Whenever you’re away first you always want a goal, but no luck. I’m happy with the team’s attitude and the game that was played. We played like a home game,” the captain continued.
“City have players who can destabilise you and when you stop to think, they take advantage. Maximum concentration is required.
“We call for our supporters in the return leg to support us and hopefully we can enjoy another final.”
