Marquinhos contact confirmed

The brother of Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos has confirmed ‘contact’ with other clubs, including Barcelona.

Marquinhos has long been a target of the Catalans and Luan Aoas Correa is reported by Sport to have told Canal+ that more than one interested party has reached out.

“There are many clubs interested in Marquinhos. They’ve already talked to me. With the club, with his agent, with me and with my father, a decision will be made,” Correa continued.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are said to be the teams rivalling Barca for the Brazil international, who has grown unhappy at PSG as he has been unable to nail down a regular first team place.

Sport further add that a summit was held Barca and Marquinhos’ representatives in recent days in an attempt to establish how best to go about the operation.

Giuliano Bertolucci is Marquinhos’ agent and he was present, as was Correa, who lives with Marquinhos in Paris, and the pair have also been in contact with City and Chelsea.

Marquinhos’ preference would though be Barca, and while La Blaugrana could meet his wages without issue, agreeing terms with PSG is the stumbling block.

Barca would be willing to go to €30m to sign Marquinhos but have made it clear he needs to talk PSG into selling as PSG might not want to sell to a Champions League rival, unless they’re left with no choice.

Chelsea are pushing for Marquinhos too but he wants to live in Spain and play in La Liga, but talks aren’t expected to be wrapped up soon as there’s not currently a rush to get the deal done.

There’s also a feeling that causing unrest at PSG wouldn’t help Marquinhos’ case to be allowed to leave, though Barca want to know as soon as possible so they can consider alternatives if PSG can’t be swayed.
