Raul dismisses Barca crisis

Raul doesn’t believe Barcelona were ever in crisis even as their La Liga lead disappeared. ‘They still depend on themselves…’

Barca had a nine-point lead over Atletico Madrid and 10 on Real Madrid but a series of defeats means Los Colchoneros drew level and Los Blancos moved just a point further back, a situation that persists with three games to go and has drawn comparisons to Madrid’s collapse under Carlos Quieroz in 2003-04, Raul having been asked if he saw similarities.

“No. It was a situation that happened and we have to accept it. Barca had a stumble but continue to rely on themselves for the title. They have the ability to win and comparisons are different. We entered into a very bad dynamic and after having everything close we weren’t capable in the end,” Raul told El Partido de la 12, AS reports.

“The Madrid players now are doing very well and have been able to be united to reach the end of the championship still fighting. There are people with character. There are cycles and circumstances. Now there’s the squad there is and Madrid supporters in the last few weeks are satisfied with what they see.

“They are great players. Cristiano Ronaldo has an impeccable track record in Madrid and Gareth Bale is a great player who is doing very well and gradually assuming his role. They’re each doing very well and importantly it’s not two players but the team united.”
