Raul wants all-Spain CL Final

Raul hopes to see a repeat of the 2014 Champions League Final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in this year’s competition.

The former Madrid captain has spoken to El Partido de las 12 and explained his post-retirement role, after ending his career at New York Cosmos and taking a role in the United States with La Liga.

“I’m responsible for the New York office and in the coming weeks and months more people will join,” he said, AS reports.

“Soccer is growing a lot, La Liga is known. Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico…MLS is increasing in support in this country and you can watch football from six or seven in the morning to the night.

“I’m not saying I won’t want to coach but I stopped playing five months ago and had the opportunity to continue a project in the United States and with La Liga. It’s a very important market to learn the business from the other side. The day I decide to return to Real Madrid I will, whether Florentino Perez is President or not.

“Maybe I miss training, but it was a very thoughtful decision [to retire]. After 21 years it was time to do other things. Today I don’t miss it as much. Obviously I would like being there for these Champions League games. Now I suffer through them on television, supporting the Spanish teams, starting with Madrid.

“Everyone knows I support Madrid and then I will support Atletico. Hopefully it’ll be possible to repeat the all-Spanish final.

“What Diego Simeone is doing is incredible. He’s getting the most from his workforce and they have a great chance of reaching the Champions League Final again.”
