Spain awaits semi-final draws

Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla and Villarreal are all in the mix as the semi-final draws for the Champions League and Europa League are made today.

Madrid’s comeback triumph over Wolfsburg on Tusday, followed by Atleti eliminating holders Barcelona 24 hours later, sees both capital giants in with a chance of repeating 2014, when the two clubs contested the final in Lisbon.

The results of AS’ pre-draw poll saw the majority of fans for either side favour Manchester City as their semi-final opponents, with Bayern Munich also vying for a first European crown under the departing Pep Guardiola.

Sevilla, meanwhile, are still in with a shout of a historic, third consecutive Europa League after needing penalties to overcome Athletic Bilbao on Thursday as Villarreal made far easier work of booking their last-four place with a 6-3 aggregate victory over Sparta Prague.

The La Liga duo are joined in the semis by Liverpool – who came back from 3-0 down to defeat Borussia Dortmund 4-3 in the second leg of their quarter-final tie – and Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Champions League draw will be made first at 10:30 GMT, with the Europa League an hour later, and Football Espana will be breaking all of the ties as they are picked out of the hat on Twitter.
