Madrid to move for Mourinho?

Real Madrid will reportedly move to bring back Jose Mourinho in the event they are eliminated from the Champions League next week.

According to the Mirror and Mundo Deportivo, Madrid were knocked back by Mourinho in January as the Portuguese had set his sights on the Manchester United job.

However, a mix of his uncertainty that Louis van Gaal will leave Old Trafford and Los Blancos’ increasing worries has possibly opened the door for a sensational return.

Madrid ultimately plumped for Mourinho’s old rival Rafa Benitez last summer, but expulsion from the Copa del Rey and a failure to challenge Barcelona in La Liga saw the former Liverpool boss sacked after just seven months.

Zinedine Zidane was installed as Benitez’s successor, but a 2-0 defeat to Wolfsburg in the Champions League on Tuesday has left Madrid’s hopes of a trophy this season in tatters, along with his own chances of remaining Coach.

Florentino Perez is also understood to be furious that his club have won the League title just once in the seven seasons he has presided over since returning in 2009.

Indeed, it was the 52-year-old who delivered Madrid their one and only Primera in 2011-12, at the climax of Barca’s reign in Spanish football.
