‘Ref robbed Depor a second time’

Red-carded Deportivo La Coruna defender Alejandro Arribas reportedly told the referee “you robbed us” a second time in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Celta Vigo.

Arribas was sent off on 68 minutes for two bookable offences in the Galician derby, and Marca reports how David Fernandez Borbalan noted after the game how the stopper “knocked an opponent over when he was in possession” for his first yellow and then “contested the ball with an opponent recklessly” for his second.

Furthemore, writing in the ‘other incidents’ section of his match report, the official spoke of how the player “confronted” him and said, “today you robbed us like you did against Villarreal” three times.

However, Depor coaches and fans were furious with the decisions not to dismiss Daniel Wass after he went in strong on Fernando Navarro and risked conceding a penalty when he appeared to foul Luis Alberto in the box, both of which were followed by Celso Borges netting the equaliser for Celta.

Arribas, who will now miss Depor’s next match against Las Palmas on April 11, was also seen to have won the ball before catching his opponent on the follow-through in the build-up to his second booking.

Depor controversially lost 2-1 to Villarreal in the first game of 2016 as Fernandez Borbalan failed to award the Galicians two penalties, before Bruno Soriano scored from the spot in the final minute of injury time.
