Berizzo: CL still in Celta’s sights

Eduardo Berizzo has claimed that Champions League qualification “is still possible” for Celta Vigo ahead of Saturday’s derby against Deportivo La Coruna.

Back-to-back wins have moved Celta to within six points of fourth-placed Villarreal in La Liga, but the Coach demanded “emotional balance” for the Galician showdown at Riazor in the first of his side’s final eight matches.

“We need emotional balance. The fans will play a key role,” he said at a Press conference.

“Everyone has a role to play in this match, where emotions are maxed out. The support of our fans will be very important.

“I prefer excessive motivation to a lack of it, but the balance between the two will be crucial.

“It’s a game of emotions, and we depend on them to raise our fans from their seats, but we’ll need to play well to win at Deportivo.

“The players know the way we play. Tiredness isn’t an excuse.

“Depor have a fortress in midfield and are organised in all departments.

“Our game plan will be business as usual, but our first match against them [this season] was more uncomfortable than expected, our movement of the ball didn’t work.

“[Champions League qualification] is still possible, it all depends on what happens in these final eight games.

“[On his contract negotiations], they’re on track.”
