Schuster: Madrid paying for imbalance

Bernd Schuster believes Real Madrid are paying for their ‘unbalanced’ squad and their ‘neighbours’ Atletico Madrid are Barcelona are better organised.

Schuster, who played for and coached Los Blancos, as well as turning out for Barca and Atletico, was speaking in advance of the Clasico, which takes place on Saturday at Camp Nou.

“Removing any personal issue, if we take the Madrid squad and divide it line by line, we know it’s not a balanced squad,” he said, AS reports.

“You pay for that in senior football because the neighbours do better. The neighbours and Atletico do it better.

“A player has to change for another one in their position. Madrid hasn’t done that and is paying for it a little.”

Schuster went on to laud the Barca XI but reserved praise for Zinedine Zidane, the current incumbent of the Madrid bench.

“At the moment it’s the MSN that convinces me the most. It’s wonderful to see,” he confirmed.

“Perhaps what I like best is how Barcelona dominate midfield. Madrid this year has been behind their opponents, not just big teams but small too.

“The experience Zidane gained as a player he will bring to the pitch as a Coach. He’s not a novice in this case.”

Schuster infamously lost his job at Santiago Bernabeu when he declared the team couldn’t beat Barca in the Clasico, but insisted he was misunderstood.

“You can always win. What I said wasn’t understood,” he affirmed.
