‘Emery doesn’t want to start over’

Unai Emery wants Sevilla to assure him the squad won’t have to be rebuilt from scratch if he is to stay as Coach.

Estadio Deportivo reports Emery has a wish list for the club to meet in order for him to remain, in the face of interest from across Europe.

It’s noted that in September it appeared Emery would leave at the end of the season as Los Rojiblancos were in poor form and poor shape, and he blamed poor preparation for it.

For next season he wants all 25 places in the squad filled with a replacement for Aleix Vidal among them – that is a wide player who can stretch opposition defences with his speed.

Monchi tried to get Andre Carrillo or Keko, from Sporting Lisbon and Eibar respectively, in January to fill the void, but was unsuccessful.

Emery also wants the squad to be kept together and not have to cope with the sale of his most crucial players in the summer, with Grzegorz Krychowiak, Kevin Gameiro, Vitolo and Steven N’Zonzi among those named.

Rather than deal with departures Emery is hoping for additions, but accepts the likes of Jose Antonio Reyes, Beto and Fernando Llorente could all go.

Reyes’ renewal would only come in conditions that now can’t be met, while Beto never regained Emery’s faith and Llorente’s performances have been disappointing.
