De Gea enjoying Casillas battle

David de Gea says he is enjoying his “healthy” battle with Iker Casillas for Spain’s No 1 jersey but will not be drawn into the debate of who should keep it.

The Manchester United goalkeeper was preferred to his veteran teammate for Thursday’s friendly against Italy and impressed as he made a succession of saves to help La Roja leave Udine with a 1-1 draw.

“I’m happy to get minutes and put in a good performance,” he said at a Press conference for Sunday’s trip to Romania.

“[On competing with Casillas], competition is healthy. The coach will decide who plays.

“[Johan Cruyff] changed the way we see attacking and one-touch football. We’ll enjoy his legacy.

“We’re talking about one of the best goalkeepers in the history of this country and the world [in Casillas]. I’m here to give everything I can.”
