Jemez: Depor an example

Paco Jemez wishes he had the support Victor Sanchez has at Deportivo La Coruna at Rayo Vallecano. ‘Maybe I’ll come here one day…’

Jemez is in A Coruna for a coaching seminar and spoke to reporters beforehand, citing his experiences at Vallecas compared with Victor at Riazor.

“Recently [Rayo President Raul Martin Presa] said his confidence in me is more than demonstrated. He and I don’t see confidence as the same thing,” Jemez noted, AS reports.

“He understands one thing and I understand another, but I understand it as Deportivo do.

“Last year we started talking in January and at the last moment I renewed. That won’t happen this year. I’d like other teams to have the same confidence Deportivo have shown in Victor.

“Deportivo is an example. When they renewed, the first round wasn’t over, and they didn’t question the Coach after a bad run. This is good proof of confidence in the direction and the Coach and that’s how it works, based on confidence and support.

“You never know, if one day my path and Deportivo’s cross, it would be nice to come here, to a place where I’ve lived and where I know.

“If that ever happens all my attention will be here but in the short-term it’s complicated. Deportivo have a great Coach and they don’t need another one.”

Regarding Rayo’s survival chances, Jemez admitted it was going to be a tough end to the season.

“This year will be more hard-fought than ever but if you win two games, you’re in a totally different situation,” he noted.

“There are a lot of equal teams struggling to win. There’ll be five or six teams fighting to avoid relegation and hopefully we won’t be one of them.”
