Messi: Barca more than MSN

Lionel Messi insists Barcelona have more to offer than just the trident he forms with Luis Suarez and Neymar.

The Argentine told a sponsor’s event that the Barca squad is a strong one, and he doesn’t feel the forwards are the be-all and end-all.

“I don’t think Barca depend on the three of us. There’s a deep squad and there are more than three players,” Messi said, Mundo Deportivo reports.

“Our players are too impressive to rely on the three forwards. We try to bring the best to the team and help defensively and offensively, but I don’t believe the team depends on us.

“The key to everything is the good relationship that not only exists between the trident but the entire locker room.

“The humility of the team to work every day and every training session with the mentality of wanting to improve ourselves and still achieve things.

“There are people who have won everything and still act as if they haven’t won anything and that reinforces the group. That’s the most positive, the desire to continue winning things and the good atmosphere we experience every day.”

Messi was also asked about a preferred Champions League quarter-final opponent.

“If we get the best rival we’ll accept it as at this point there’s no opponent to choose,” he noted.

“[The teams in the quarters] are the best and whoever we get, it’ll be complicated. We’ll wait and whoever we get, it’ll be fine.”
