Benitez agrees Newcastle deal?

Former Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez has reportedly agreed a three-year contract to become the next Newcastle United manager.

According to AS, the Magpies will sack Steve McClaren in the coming hours after convincing the Spaniard to take the reins, although negotiations were not easy as the 55-year-old demanded full control of the club in order to carry out his project.

The move marks a return to the Premier League for Benitez, who managed Liverpool between 2004 and 2010, most notably lifting the Champions League in his first season, and Chelsea for the 2012-13 season, ending the campaign with the Europa League.

Benitez’s most recent job was at Madrid, where he succeeded Carlo Ancelotti last June, but he was sacked just seven months later, with the side adrift of arch-rivals Barcelona in La Liga and out of the Copa del Rey due to fielding an ineligible player.
