Galca: Espanyol raring to go

Constantin Galca says his Espanyol players “feel much better now” after their bout of gastroenteritis ahead of Monday’s match against Rayo Vallecano.

Espanyol were hit by an outbreak of the stomach virus last week, which left them in a depleted state for the visit of Real Betis on Thursday, resulting in a 3-0 home reverse, but Galca was happy to state prior to facing Rayo that his squad was fighting fit again.

“We know the importance of the game and we’re ready for what will be an intense encounter. We’re focused,” he said at a Press conference.

“[Rayo] are a team who treat the ball very well and have great movement on the pitch.

“We’ll see which [system] we play. [Against Betis], we suffered for what happened during the week.

“The players feel much better now. Last week, we only trained once with all the players and it showed, especially early in the game.

“The important thing is ourselves. If we have the fans’ support, we’ll win. They’re essential for the team and they know it.”
