Marcelino shocked by Villarreal boos

Marcelino lamented “we’re sometimes out of touch with reality” after Villarreal were booed off in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Las Palmas.

David Garcia’s 30th-minute strike condemned the Yellow Submarine to a first defeat in 14 games but kept the side significantly clear of fifth-placed Sevilla in La Liga, prompting the Coach to express his shock at the fickle nature of his club’s supporters.

“It always hurts to lose,” he said after the game.

“We went 14 games without losing and that’s very important, but that run ended [on Saturday].

“Sometimes I think we’re out of touch with reality. I don’t understand how these players can be jeered in the 14th minute.

“I’m asking for the fans’ support. It’s very important to us.

“You can win or lose, and it’s true that we didn’t win, but this team always try to show their face.

“It wasn’t our day. There are days when things don’t go as you want or, in our case, as we want.

“I’m sad about the defeat and for the situations that I have trouble understanding.

“I don’t think we were precise in the [Las Palmas] area.

“We carried the ball well to their box, but we struggled with our decision-making and accuracy in the final third.

“Maybe on another day we’d have won or it’d have been a draw.

“I don’t think we deserved to lose, but they scored and we didn’t. Therefore, the result was fair.”
