Gonzalez ‘honoured’ for Carmenes debut

Jose Gonzalez is “honoured” to make his debut in the Los Carmenes dugout when Granada host Sporting Gijon in La Liga on Thursday.

Gonzalez kicked off his reign in Andalusia with a 1-0 win at Deportivo La Coruna over the weekend, but he is expecting a “totally different” type of game against Sporting, whom will “make life difficult” for his team, even if they may see more of the ball.

“I hope for a totally different game [to Depor] because Sporting and Depor are polar opposites. They have different ways of understanding the game,” he said at a Press conference.

“We must be able to play against any kind of team and adapt to what we’re going to face in both an attacking and defensive sense.

“We’ll see more of the ball against a team who will make life difficult for us.

“Sporting are a good team who are very competitive and know how to play because their Coach has been very clear [in relaying what he wants to his players].

“Still, we’re optimistic and psyched [for the game], and although what we want to create takes time, with the talent and mentality we have, it may be enough to get the result [on Thursday].

“I won’t rule out changes to the starting line-up. All the players were at a high level at Riazor, but this is a different game against a different team and at another stadium.

“It’s an honour to be Granada’s Coach in La Liga and an opportunity that many people would like, and I hope to debut at Los Carmenes with a win.”
