Neville ‘grateful’ for Kameni blunder

Gary Neville revealed he was “grateful” for Carlos Kameni’s blunder during Valencia’s 2-1 win at Malaga in La Liga on Wednesday.

Malaga took the lead through Duje Cop on 14 minutes but allowed Valencia back into the game just before half-time, when Carlos Kameni parried the ball into his own net, before Denis Cheryshev emerged with Los Che’s winner after the break.

“When we win, it’s said at a Press conference that we look up [the table] and down when we lose,” the Coach said after the game.

“Although it wasn’t our best game, I was proud of our second half because we resisted well, we played with purpose and everyone was very good individually.

“We needed to show an improvement on set-pieces and that’s what made me the happiest.

“We’re grateful for the time of [Kameni’s] error because for 38 minutes we didn’t play well and started playing better from that point onwards.

“We played better [in the second half] and could’ve scored two or three goals.

“We had the best spell of the game [from either team] in the first 20 minutes of the second half.

“The game was quite difficult to officiate. There were many air balls, one-on-ones and moments of tension, so the game was never smooth.”
