‘Espanyol sickness improving’

Constantin Galca reveals the Espanyol players hit by gastroenteritis are improving ahead of Real Betis.

Eight players were reported as suffering from the ailment earlier in the week, potentially leaving Galca short of options for a relegation six-pointer at Cornella-El Prat.

“They have greatly improved. We’ll have to see how they are [on Thursday]. Some of them are more effected,” he told reporters, according to AS.

“The most affected are Hernan Perez, Marco Asensio and Burgui.

“I’ll decide on rotations when I see how the gastroenteritis is. It’s one thing to train and another to play. They may have recovered but they might not be well.”

Regarding the match itself, Galca admitted there was confidence in the squad after two straight wins but expects Betis to be a tough test.

“The team is confident but it will be a very difficult match. Betis have experienced players and it’ll be different to other games,” he said.

“It will be important to have the fans on our side. I hope that will lead us to victory. The important thing is to win every game and gain more confidence.

“Betis have an experienced team with good players. Away from home, since Juan Merino was appointed, they’ve only lost once.

“They’re a very tough team, they have two forwards who take advantage of chances.”
