Costa, Morata, Alcacer to Euro 2016?

Diego Costa, Alvaro Morata and Paco Alcacer are reported as Spain’s three strikers for Euro 2016.

AS says Aritz Aduriz could be called up for a March friendly but barring injury, Vicente Del Bosque will prefer Chelsea’s Costa, Juventus’ Morata and Valencia’s Alcacer over the Athletic Bilbao striker for the summer tournament.

Borja Baston, the Atletico Madrid striker on loan at Eibar and the leading Spanish scorer in the Primera, will be called to the pre-tournament squad of 30, before it is trimmed down after the Champions League Final on May 28, which is expected to have Spanish involvement.

Del Bosque will name his 23-man squad on May 17 and the other seven will leave the group before the tournament gets underway.

Central defence is said to be a concern as only Gerard Pique and Sergio Ramos are regulars with their clubs, Del Bosque having previously called the likes of Marc Bartra and Nacho.

Jesus Vallejo, captain of Spain’s successful Under-19 side, signed by Real Madrid and loaned back to Real Zaragoza, could be invited to train with the seniors in May.

Jorge Mere, the Sporting Gijon defender who has also appeared for the Spain youth sides, might be called as well and there could even be space in the Euro 2016 squad for one of the youngsters.

Bayern Munich’s Javi Martinez would be another option for central defence and Del Bosque will this weekend go to Germany to check on his fitness.

Del Bosque will also speak with Bayern Coach Pep Guardiola while there, to discuss Thiago Alcantara and Juan Bernat, and watch Bayern against Borussia Dortmund.
