Real Sociedad Coach Eusebio Sacristan pointed to opponents Atletico Madrid as an ‘example’ of what teamwork really means.

Diego Simeone has taken Los Colchoneros to second in La Liga after winning the 2014 title, and Eusebio was asked if the same could have been achieved at Vicente Calderon by anyone else.

“In the end achieving a team with a great commitment is complicated, but that’s what Simeone has managed to do,” he told the Press, AS reports.

“But when you get everyone to understand what’s important, that it’s necessary to put the collective over the individual, you get things like Atletico.

“Simeone has succeeded. With another Coach it wouldn’t be what it is. Historically it was a club trying to reach that level in the last decade.

“His qualities? If he could be summarised by only one…he has many. There’s a very consistent high performance and he’s very caring, generous with great virtues that make a team and that have allowed him to fight for all the trophies of the last few seasons.

“I think they’re a great example of what teamwork means. It’s a very solid team, defensively very strong, which is always difficult to score against, with players moving well between the lines.

“We could talk all day about Atletico’s virtues.”
