Benzema out for three weeks

Real Madrid will be without Karim Benzema for up to three weeks after the striker suffered a hamstring injury against Atletico Madrid on Saturday.

Benzema underwent tests on Monday to determine the extent of the ailment which forced him off at half-time in the 1-0 defeat to Atleti, and Madrid’s official website confirmed “a muscle injury to his right hamstring”.

Consequently, the Frenchman is set to miss La Liga games against Levante, Celta Vigo, Las Palmas and – possibly – Sevilla, plus Roma in the Champions League, although he should be ready for the Clasico at Barcelona on April 2.

Benzema was also a late casualty for Los Blancos’ 1-1 draw at Malaga little over a week ago with a hip problem, while he missed almost a month of the season in October with a hamstring injury to his left leg on international duty.
