Borja Mayoral is under consideration from Real Madrid Coach Zinedine Zidane for the Madrid derby if Karim Benzema isn’t fit.

AS notes there remains a doubt over Benzema’s availability and if he can’t play against Atletico Madrid on Saturday, Mayoral could get the nod after impressing this season.

The 18-year-old scored twice in the Madrid Under-19s’ win over Manchester City earlier in the week, the second of which a stunning goal that AS compares to a Ronaldo effort.

Zidane was watching and Mayoral has been involved in Madrid squads already, taking a place on the bench against Malaga despite carrying a knock and having played and scored for Real Madrid Castilla the day before.

Mayoral debuted for the Madrid first team earlier in the season so his familiarity with the squad is also a factor in Zidane’s consideration of him.

Madrid have tied down Mayoral until 2021 and since the 2012-13 season, he has 148 goals to his name at various youth levels, including one in the final of the Under-17 Club World Cup.

AS suggests that if Benzema doesn’t recover from the hip injury that saw him miss the draw with Malaga, the opportunity could go to Mayoral.
