Neville: Confidence key for Valencia

Gary Neville has put Valencia’s mini-resurgence down to “confidence and faith” ahead of Sunday’s trip to Granada in La Liga.

Neville guided Valencia back-to-back wins for the first time since his appointment in December thanks to victories over Espanyol and Rapid Vienna, the latter particularly eye-catching as Los Che triumphed 6-0, and the Coach is hoping for more of the same at Los Carmenes.

“If you remember the Copa [del Rey last-16] game [at Granada], you’ll remember that we won 3-0, but it won’t be the same game,” he said at a Press conference.

“[Granada] had a great game and our goalkeeper made some great saves, but this game will be very different.

“I see no resemblance to the cup. It’ll be different as Granada and Valencia both need the points.

“It’s been a time for calmness after the game against Rapid. I was told that a win would be a turning point, but I haven’t seen it. In football, every week is different.

“I’m calm, despite the challenges we’ve faced. It’s a time to work hard.

“There’s no time to recover and we must focus on our confidence. We were tenser against Espanyol than Rapid.

“I don’t feel more relaxed. My feelings haven’t changed I got here.

“I’ve always tried to do my best for this club. There’s been a change in the last 10 days, in regards to confidence.

“The only thing we can say [we’ve attained] are confidence and faith. We’ve trained very hard for two months.

“I’m not looking at the table. As a player, you must try to avoid distractions. We only have to win games.

“I’ve been sleeping better and seen a change in our organisation [referring to the team’s shape].

“Our work can be seen and the results are following. We haven’t changed the way we work in recent weeks.

“[Our poor form] was an exception and very unusual. Against Depor, we started to see aspects [of our hard work] and I feel more confident now.

“Things are changing, but football is about the next game and I’m not looking at the table.

“I hope that these two victories allow us to be confident. We have to go out and prove ourselves.

“We want to show spirit and fight … We want to show the confidence, faith and freedom we played with against Rapid. It was wonderful.

“[On playing Dani Parejo further forward], Dani has done well in front of goal recently, so he can play further up the pitch.”
