Modric: Ancelotti my favourite Coach

Luka Modric has revealed that Carlo Ancelotti is his favourite Real Madrid Coach but is backing Zinedine Zidane to sustain his encouraging start.

Modric played a key role in Ancelotti’s Madrid side, which won both the Copa del Rey and Champions League in 2014 – the latter also marking the club’s 10th European cup – and the midfielder admits he found working under the Italian most rewarding.

“From day one, I fell in love with the city of Madrid, the club and everyone there,” he told BBC Sport.

“I’ve enjoyed every moment since I arrived here. I’m living the dream, as was winning La Decima.

“I had a great relationship with each Coach. Each one helped me improve, but if I had to choose one, I’d say Ancelotti.

“We had a great relationship, we still do and that’s why I’d choose him.

“I think everyone knows that [Zidane] is one of the best of all time and to have him as a Coach is great.

“I can learn a lot from him. He’s done well so far and I’m sure he’ll have a great coaching career.

“He knows exactly what he wants and we’re all very happy with the way he’s coaching the team.

“The training sessions are exciting, fun and very intense. It’s what we need and I hope our results lead to trophies.

“[Cristiano Ronaldo] is amazing. He plays every game at the highest level and that’s not easy.

“It’s very difficult [to do]. He’s one of the best players in the world and I’m very happy that he’s with us.

“[Gareth Bale] has developed a lot. He’s also one of the best players in the world.

“[On his future at Madrid], I have many years of my contract remaining and I’d like be here for as long as possible.”
