‘La Real should be fortified’

Eusebio Sacristan expects Real Sociedad’s emphatic win over Espanyol to give the team the impetus to push up the table.

The Basques took a 5-0 win away from Cornella-El Prat and may have sealed the fate of Constantin Galca on the home bench, but Eusebio was only concerned by his side.

“This victory should fortify us,” he is quoted as saying post-match by AS.

“Now we have to keep working with the same humility. We think this is the way and we have to continue along the same lines, trying to move up [the table] to be more relaxed.”

The win came after La Real had lost 5-1 to Sporting Gijon in late January, Eusebio pleased to respond with two straight wins after Real Betis were beaten last weekend.

“Losing always hurts and more so when it’s by a lot of goals,” he admitted.

“But it helped us to learn and change where we were failing. Two victories have given us air.

“Clearly, Jonathas lives on goals and it was a good game for him as he had space. It’s the prize for the work that he’s been doing in previous weeks.

“The players applied themselves to the maximum. We knew the opponent’s conditions and their intensity.”
