Fazio sees red on Sevilla return

Federico Fazio was sent off on his second Sevilla debut on Sunday against Celta Vigo, and Unai Emery admitted the defender could have no complaints.

The Argentine, who recently arrived from Tottenham Hotspur on loan until the end of the season, was given his marching orders for two bookable offences after just 25 minutes at Balaidos, although Los Nervionenses managed to hold out for a 1-1 draw.

“The most important thing was that we remained fifth after how much it cost us to get there,” the Coach said after the game.

“We left [Balaidos] reinforced. We wanted a victory so we could establish ourselves further, but it wasn’t to be.

“Still, we’re happy enough because we could’ve lost [in the circumstances].

“After the red card, we had some moments of uncertainty and scored but lost control of the game.

“In the second half, we defended well, very solidly and with generosity in our efforts because if someone was closer to scoring, it was Celta.

“[On not protesting Fazio’s red], he knew he arrived late [in the tackle].

“[On this week’s Copa del Rey semi-final second leg vs Celta], we’ll face them with respect and be up for the challenge.”

Fazio was also dismissed on his Tottenham debut last season, having been shown a straight red card in a 4-1 defeat to Manchester City.
