‘Granada lost to a genius’

Jose Ramon Sandoval ‘couldn’t ask any more’ of Granada as they only lost to Real Madrid because of Luka Modric’s ‘genius.’

Modric scored a spectacular winner but El Grana were more than competitive against Los Blancos despite going into the game in second bottom, and the Coach was proud of his players.

“That’s two games against Madrid where we did everything but take the points,” Sandoval lamented, AS reports.

“But the applause these players received was because [the crowd] knew they had given everything.

“What more could you ask when you play against Real Madrid? They came here after laying waste to other teams and we made it difficult. We lost because of a goal from outside the penalty area, because of the genius of one player.

“The defence coped very well with Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and James Rodriguez and our two youngsters put Marcelo and Dani Carvajal in difficulty.

“They leave with the feeling that the win wasn’t deserved. The fair thing would have been a draw.”

Sandoval was asked if he felt Granada should have had a penalty and replied by backing the call of Jesus Gil Manzano, who spotted Keylor Navas’ hand getting the ball as Isaac Success rounded him.

“My player said it wasn’t a penalty.  The referee got it right, he was 10 out of 10 today in that respect,” Sandoval admitted.
