Neville: No Valencia ultimatum

Gary Neville has insisted that his Valencia job is not on the line ahead of Sunday’s trip to Real Betis in La Liga.

The former Manchester United defender heads to Benito Villamarin after no wins in his first eight games at the helm of Los Che and on the back of a 7-0 thumping at the hands of Barcelona in the Copa del Rey semi-finals, but he made it clear he still retained the faith of his superiors.

“I’ve been in touch with many people in the last few days and I’m in good spirits,” he said at a Press conference.

“I’m having a go, I believe in myself and my players. It’s a tough time for everyone, but we have to work hard and have belief.

“I lost trophies, Champions League semi-finals, FA Cup finals and games with the national team, but [the losses] makes you stronger.

“Now is the time when Neville has to achieve results, perform and show what he’s achieved in his career. I have little experience on the bench but plenty throughout my career.

“I never saw a crowd [at the 7-0 defeat] so passionate in my career. That passion when we win is going to be awesome.

“I’m able to find positives in the negatives. I’ve never seen anything like [the 7-0], but I see it as a challenge that the fans want us to bounce back.

“It hurts when we hurt the fans, and Wednesday night was a very bad time for them, so we must reverse it and see the positives.

“There won’t be a revolution [in the XI], neither do we need one. We just have to make chances and take them.

“I’ve been in contact with Peter [Lim], but the best way to describe [this situation] is that I’ve experienced it before.

“I’m not thinking this way [referring to an ultimatum]. You can’t think like that as a Coach.

“You have to give it your all. The tides will change and our efforts are going to be rewarded.

“[Relegation] isn’t something which has entered our plans. We haven’t thought about it.”
