‘Valencia should think about La Liga’

Barcelona technical director Robert Fernandez advised Valencia to ‘think about the League’ after the Catalans’ emphatic Copa del Rey semi-final win.

La Blaugrana took a 7-0 victory in the first leg and Robert told reporters after the match that Los Che might give a better account at Mestalla, but it won’t be enough.

“Clearly the result says it all. We’ve taken a step, if not a definitive one,” he said, according to Marca.

“I think the second leg will be a lot different and Valencia should think about La Liga.

“I’m satisfied with the result, not surprisingly. I didn’t think we’d have such a peaceful game and such a favourable result. Nobody could have before the start of the game.

“We played very well, got into favourable positions many times and that is hard to counteract.

“Our game was very good. We took a few risks, we were very focused and we had a great fluidity from defence and gave good situations to those in attack, that’s what matters.

“It’s always important to have a lot of chances, but to also have successful ones.”

Robert was asked about Neymar specifically, the Brazilian having missed a penalty during the game and having been accused of showboating as well.

“Ney has a special way of playing and the people like it,” he noted.

“He needs the ball all the time, and his game is special. I think a lot of people like the way he plays. He’s special and different.

“The missed penalty isn’t of much importance. When he can take another one he’ll assume responsibility. It looks easy, but sometimes it isn’t.”
