Mosquera explains Valencia snub

Deportivo La Coruna’s Pedro Mosquera has explained why he turned down the chance to join Valencia. ‘It’s because of the love of this city.’

It was expected that Mosquera would move to Mestalla after Los Che met his €4m contract release clause but he turned down the approach to remain at Riazor, and received a rousing reception during Monday’s 2-2 draw with Rayo Vallecano.

“I want to thank everyone both for the ovation and messages and words of support I’ve received on the street and on social media,” Mosquera said, Marca reports.

“I want to tell you that if I decided to stay it’s because of the love I have received from my city from the first day until now. This affection is reciprocal. [Monday] was one of the most special days of my life.”

Mosquera, a native of A Coruna but a product of the Real Madrid academy, moved to Deportivo in the summer after leaving Elche on a free transfer.
